Columbia could vote on ROTC today

Friday, April 1st, 2011

The University Senate at Columbia may vote later this afternoon on a resolution expressing support for inviting the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps back to campus. ROTC opponents could delay the vote until the Senate’s next meeting on April 29.

The key section of the resolution states, “Columbia University welcomes the opportunity to explore further mutually beneficial relationships with the Armed Forces of the United States, including participation in the programs of the Reserve Officers Training Corps.”

The resolution also notes the strong support for ROTC as demonstrated by a recent university-wide poll in which 60 percent of students voted in favor of an on-campus program.
